LASHUTKA AWARD


The following six Central Ohio teens were awarded the 2013 Lashutka Scholarship at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon VIP Party on Friday, Oct. 18. The $1,000 scholarship, named after former Columbus Mayor Greg Lashutka, is awarded to high school seniors who excel in cross-country running, the classroom and leadership activities.

 

Kevin Adams, Senior, Centennial High School

Kevin, with a GPA of 3.9, has been captain of his schools cross-country team for the past two years. He is the Columbus City Cross Country Champion. He serves as Manager of the Women’s Volleyball team and co-president of his school’s Gay-Straight Alliance. He’s been named to the National Honor Society this year and last.

 

Luke Evans, Senior, Grandview Heights High School

Luke maintains a GPA of 4.107 while serving as the Captain of his school’s cross-country and track teams. As both a sophomore and junior, he was the cross-country conference and district champion and he was All State in cross-country. He is also on student council and in his school’s marching band student director, and served as a 5th-grade camp counselor.

 

Catherine Hildebrand, Senior, Hilliard Davidson High School

Catherine maintains a GPA of 4.0 with a heave class schedule that includes several Advanced Placement and honors classes. She has been captain of her school’s Cross Country team for the past two years, and has led the team to back-to-back district and regional titles. She’s also a member of the National Honors Society.

 

Mackenzie Pahren, Senior, Northland High School

Mackenzie is captain of the cross-country team; she has a PR of 20:32 and has been named Most Valuable Runner on her team. She maintains a GPA of 3.77, with a full load of Advanced Placement courses and a part-time job.

 

Cody Redman, Teays Valley High School

Cody has received All County Cross Country honors for four years in a row; he was 2012 all-districts runner. With a GPA of 4.3, he is a member of the National Honors Society, a member of the yearbook staff, a student leader of the Friends of Rachel Club (for bullying prevention) and a class representative on his school’s student council.

 

Sarra Taylor, London High School

Sarra has been named Columbus Athlete of the Week four times; was crowned the Division II state champion in 2011. She is the captain of her cross-country team. She volunteers at middle school track meets, helps with preschools in her community and is a member of the National Honors Society.
