FOR PARTICIPANTS:
This is the time of the race when many marathoners hit the wall. The Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon works really hard to break down that wall.
The course gradually goes downhill. Many athletes have a fast 5 or 10k upon entering Grandview Heights. You’ll pass through the heart of Grandview Avenue, where fans line both sides of the business district. In Victorian Village, spectators will continue to line the street throughout the marathon’s final 2.2 miles. The only thing more abundant than fan support will, again, be Neil Avenue’s welcome shade.
FOR SPECTATORS:
Grandview Avenue is known for its plentiful boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops lined with outdoor seating. There’s also several sidestreets where you can park and quickly get to the action.
In Victorian Village, check out the Sells Brothers Circus House at the corner of Buttles and Dennison Avenues (note this is a private residence). This famous circus was owned by Peter Sells who later sold it to the Bailey Circus – precursor to Ringing Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. The home even looks like a big top tent. Baby animals born in the winter were said to have stayed in the basement of the house!

Nationwide Children’s Hospital is honored to be the title beneficiary for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon for the second year.
The 2013 event raised $1.25 million and counting for Nationwide Children's Hospital in the second year of the partnership. This includes a $200,000 contribution from the Columbus Marathon board of trustees; $100,000 of that contribution will be directed to the Pulmonary Department at Nationwide Children's in honor of long-time Columbus Marathon volunteers Brent and Catherine LaCount and their daughter, Berkley.
